MIDDLETON COUNTRY FAIR - 2008
The lovely little hamlet of Middleton is just 45 minutes easy drive south from Hobart and is situated on the picturesque D'entrecasteaux Channel.
Middleton Country Fair is held each year on the first Saturday in February and is in the heart of "SCARECROW COUNTRY". In 2008 it is Sat 2nd February.
Smell the clean fresh country air of the Channel Country as you travel down the picturesque Channel Highway to Middleton nested on the shores of beautiful Long Bay.
The breath taking water vista of the D'entrecasteaux Channel and unique Bruny Island will amaze you as you drive to Middleton. From Hobart continue through Margate, Kettering, Woodbridge, Flowerpot to Middleton and you'll see Scarecrows on fences, in paddocks and up trees. They are entries in the now famous annual Middleton Country Fair Scarecrow Competition.
Why? Because the Middleton Country Fair is all about fun - rain or shine! Around 2,000 people attend and one can see why it's a really enjoyable family day - over 80 stalls - crafts, tasty foods, plants , animal displays, trade displays, pony rides, sheep shearing, bands, singers & performers, lucky gate prize, raffles, kids games, puppet show - the list goes on and on - come and see.
Ample parking and toilet facilities make this carnival day in the country as carefree and relaxed as you could want. Try your hand at the famous Splat-the-Rat and also be in the running for the lucky gate prize which awaits some lucky visitor.
The Fair is run by a local voluntary committee with finances raised put back into community projects in the Channel area for the benefit of tourists and locals alike.
Commencing at 10am and continuing till 3pm it gives you ample time to enjoy the best time of the day in the clean country air that is Middleton in the beautiful Channel Country on Long Bay.
